|
I'm a school psychologist from Indianapolis, IN (Carmel/Fishers schools) with an Ed.S degree and have 5 years of experience working in the field. I have an extreme passion to continue my education with a specific focus in neuropsychology. I want to enhance my clinical skills and continue a path that will lead me to work in a clinical setting as I want to leave the schools to follow my personal/professional dreams..... I have specific interests in working with athletes (concussions/TBI; baseline data; neuropsych testing etc), dabbling in some sports psychology type of things (i was a college basketball player) and of course working with the pediatric population doing assessments/consultation...So I'm mentally ready to make this career change NOW (I'm 31)!
I've been hawking the internet for programs with a specific neuro cognate/focus, but just want to open it up to see what anyone out there would offer as advice for a specific program direction to take, school choices out there, chances of being selected, etc. I went from BA in psychology straight to a grad program to get my Ed.S....therefore I don't have much (or none!) on the research end for PhD programs to weigh in...BUT i have 5 years of (proven competence work in the Indianapolis (Carmel /Fishers) schools/area. How much do these PhD programs weigh this factor when choosing students for their programs?
Lastly, I've found several programs with a neuro focus/cognate etc...Ball State, Utah, California Santa Barbara, Duquesne, Mich St, Georgia St, U of South Fl, and Penn St .... Any other help is greatly appreciated. Thx |

| I think some schools might look for more research experience but others might find your path interesting--it gets a little boring looking at dozens of applications from college seniors every year. For a list of programs with neuropsych training, see the Training Links section on this website--it's not a complete list, of course, but it's at least a solid start. Good luck. |

| You might want to consider a sub-specialty - school neuropsychology, since your are already in the field of school psychology. Here is a link to information in training. www.schoolneuropsych.com Good luck! |
