I want to get a phd in neuropsychology and was wondering if there are any training programs in the boston, ma area.
Also, i have no idea what kind of chance i have for getting in to a phd program. I was pre-med as an undergrad and majored in neuroscience and behavior. My gpa suffered from the pre-med insanity. It is a 3.3 overall. In my last two years of college it probably was about a 3.75 though. I have clinical research experience in psychology (also currently working in a cognitive neuroscience psych lab) and lots of hospital experience from being pre-med. I scored around the 80th percentile on the gre. Do i have no chance at all because of my low cum gpa? |

| according to my advisor in college. Grad schools consider things like your experience in the cognitive neuroscience psychology lab very heavily. You also didn't have such a terrible GPA or GRE score. of course I'm not an expert, but if i were you i would go for it. |

1) There are training programs in the Boston area, check out the training links page on this site. Boston is an absolutely huge hub for neuropsychology, if I were you I'd look into at least learning about the existence of instruments that begin with the name "Boston" (Boston Naming Test, Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination, etc.) and maybe a little bit about the Boston Process Approach, depending on where you'd be applying. It's good to know your audience.
2) The attention given to GPA will vary by program, and even by faculty member within a program. Some do care about numbers--but mostly GRE scores, not GPA, in my limited experience. I agree that you should focus on your research experience, whatever it may be, and understand how it relates to your future interest and goals. If you can piece that together, and get a nice recommendation letter or two, you're fine. _________________ Lee Ashendorf, Ph.D.

Go to Fielding.edu and take a look. I am in the program and can't say enough about it. We have a concentration in Neuro and are APA accredited. Backchannel me if you have any questions or would like to discuss the program @ lauraken@bellsouth.net
