NAN recently released results of a Fall, 2009 PAIC Survey and reported initial findings of the top professional concerns of neuropsychologists:
Drs. Roebuck-Spencer and Wolff (initial analysis) and Dr. Roebuck-Spencer (extended analyses) performed the analyses.
Top 10 Concerns in order utilizing statistical frequency:
1. Having neuropsychology services included within any new national health care plan
2. Having third party payers regard your work as “medically necessary”
3. Receiving third party pre-authorization for sufficient number of hours
4. Being forced into a time-driven, low quality, brief assessment approach to the evaluation of complex neuropsychological problems
5. Contending with proprietary managed care guidelines or "criteria" advising them as to what is and is not medically necessary
6. Growing costs of billing and ensuring reimbursement for services rendered (either through cost of staff, billing service, or clinician's own time)
7. Being able to afford commercially sold test instruments that support a practice
8. Being required to evaluate medical/neuropsychological conditions under mental health/psychological CPT codes
9. Receiving enough referrals
10. Being permitted to use technicians (or students as technicians) " _________________ Ernest J. Bordini, Ph.D.
