Qualified candidates are sought to fill a postdoctoral position available at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center to carry out research using advanced 3T and 7T MR imaging (e.g. fMRI, ASL, CEST, DTI), and related analysis approaches, in patients with Alzheimer’s disease related pathology. Projects include structural and functional connectivity of the brain, regional perfusion imaging using arterial spin labeling, chemical exchange saturation transfer, susceptibility weighted imaging, and T1-rho imaging. Analysis of MR data and correlative analyses with neuropsychological scores and genetic data will be performed in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and familial risk. The selected candidate will also be encouraged to develop his/her own independent research projects.
State-of-the-art human brain imaging facilities dedicated to this research include two Philips 3T scanners with 32 receiver channels, one Philips 7T scanner with 32 receiver channels, and a full complement of fMRI and physiological monitoring equipment. Research collaborations with investigators in Depts. of Neurology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, and Radiology are possible and encouraged.
The ideal postdoctoral candidates will have a PhD or DPhil in biomedical engineering, biophysics, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology or a related discipline (including neuroscience/neuroimaging) with preferred experience in MR analysis (fMRI, DTI, or ASL) as well as knowledge of neuroscience and neurobiology. A background in Alzheimer’s disease would be desired, however is not required. Programming skills in Matlab, Unix/Linux and scientific computing, as well as experience with FSL and Freesurfer, are highly desired.
The position is available immediately and available for two years. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Excellent communication skills are required as well as a willingness to present results at scientific conferences. Applicants should include a cover letter, current resume, a detailed description of prior research experience, and names of three references with phone numbers and email addresses.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with NIH guidelines.
