Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Sports Neuropsychology

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Concussion Program is seeking applicants for a post-doctoral fellowship position. This is a 2 year position under the clinical direction of Michael W. Collins, Ph.D. The UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program is involved in concussion management at all levels of sports participation, including professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational. The program is based within the Orthopedic Surgery department and is housed within the newly built wing of the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine, a 3,500 square foot space within one of the largest sports medicine facilities in the country. In addition, the UPMC Sports Medicine concussion program works in congruence with the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Pittsburgh Panthers indoor training facility. The UPMC concussion program continues to expand since its introduction in 2000 and there are now 5 full-time attending Clinical Neuropsychologists, as well as 23 other faculty and staff, including Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurovestibular Rehabilitation, NeuroSurgery, Exertion Training, NeuroRadiology, Behavioral NeuroOptometry, and Physical Therapy. The volume of patient referrals is high and extensive programmatic research is occurring. Duties will primarily consist of brief and extended neuropsychological evaluations of child and adult athletes with sports and recreation-related concussion. In addition, the clinic receives referrals for neuropsychological evaluations of patients with non-sport TBI, as well as other neurological and psychiatric disorders. Involvement in research is encouraged through the provision of dedicated research time on a weekly basis.

The appointment is a 24-month, full time position, beginning in August or September 2013. A doctoral degree in psychology, completion of an APA-accredited internship, and training in neuropsychological assessment are required. Interested applicants should send their CV, 3 letters of recommendation, and a statement of goals and interests via email to collinsmw@upmc.edu or via postal mail to: Dr. Michael Collins, PhD, 3200 S. Water St., Pittsburgh, PA 15203 by January 1, 2013.
