The Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation program seeks applicants for a 2-year, full-time combined clinical and research pediatric psychology and neuropsychology fellowship at the Columbia University Medical Center and the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NY-Presbyterian.
Both the Pediatric Psychology and Neuropsychological assessment (in- and out-patient), consultation and intervention are within the pediatric hematology, oncology, and stem cell transplantation programs at Columbia.
The fellow will be responsible for performing neuropsychological evaluations for pediatric patients as part of ongoing clinical research studies that evaluate the impact of treatment, in addition to providing clinical assessments for those either finishing therapy and returning to school or those off treatment who may benefit from receiving appropriate educational placements and remedial interventions.
The Fellow will also provide therapeutic services and interventions for patient and families who are either actively being treated at Columbia as well as those who have finished medical treatment through the weekly Survivorship program. Referrals will range from anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, pain, etc.
The Columbia University Medical Center is an internationally recognized leader in research for children with illness, including cancer, sickle cell disease/stroke, HIV/AIDS and genetic disorders. For several consecutive years, the Children's Hospital of NY Presbyterian has been named as the #1 Children's Hospital in New York City. Collaborations with neuro-radiology, infectious disease, pain service, palliative care, New York State Psychiatric Institute programs, social work, child life and chaplain services are readily available and accessible.
Didactic opportunities include seminars in neuropsychology, neuroanatomy, medical psychology and clinical psychology; rounds in psychology, hematology, oncology, stem cell transplantation and neuroradiology; multidisciplinary seminars; staff meetings; and conferences.
Benefits are attractive and the stipend is highly competitive and consistent with NIH fellowship guidelines. Start date is anticipated for July 1, 2013. Completion of an APA accredited doctoral program and internship is required. Candidates should have defended their dissertation prior to commencement of the fellowship and bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
