POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS for 2013-2014 training year

The Allendale Association is a private, not-for-profit agency dedicated to excellence and innovation in the care, education, treatment, and advocacy for troubled children, adolescents and their families. The main campus of Allendale is located in Lake Villa, Illinois, 50 miles north of Chicago.

Three tracks are available for the 2013 - 2014 training year:

1) Residential treatment – the resident in this position will see clients and families primarily in the agency’s residential treatment program. This position also involves consulting within a team/ milieu environment.

2) Outpatient and day treatment – the resident in this position will see clients in the agency’s outpatient clinic and the on-campus day treatment school.

3) Psychological testing – the resident in this position will conduct testing in all of the agency’s programs and will also carry a caseload of outpatient clients.

The post-doctoral program has a strong psychodynamic influence. In addition to those with clinical and counseling psychology backgrounds, applicants with a background in forensic psychology are welcome to apply.

Regularly scheduled seminars and supervision groups include:

Disorders of the Self: In this seminar participants will be presented with information about the components of evidence-based treatment, Jonathan Shedler’s article on the efficacy of psychodynamic therapy (citing several meta-analyses), and neurobiological research supporting some psychodynamic concepts. The focus will be on Shedler’s seven distinctive features of psychodynamic technique, along with Dr. James Masterson’s and Dr. Nancy McWilliams’ psychodynamic therapy approaches. Clinical

Consultation Seminar: The seminar emphasizes the use of the REStArT model in working with families, regardless of theoretical orientation. A main focus is on forming a working alliance with the client and family by helping them identify and work through various forms of ambivalence regarding treatment.

Supervision Skills: This supervision group focuses on post-docs supervising therapeutic mentors (when available) and didactics regarding various models of supervision.

The yearly stipend is $34,000. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, 2 weeks paid vacation, 8 sick days and 10 holidays/personal days.
