Hi. I am a sophomore at Louisiana State University, and I am majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. Recently, a professor from my university informed me of the future troubles that I may encounter with a psychology major -- namely, not being able to do much with it. She suggested that I do some research pertaining to available career options with a psychology degree. Well, I did just that, and I was more than intrigued by neuropsychology. I was a pre-med my freshman year, but, then again, wasn't everyone? I am so much more happier with myself and school ever since I switched my major to psychology, and I would really like to continue with it. I was just wondering if anyone could offer me more information about neuropsychology and the different careers and options within the field. Also, which classes would be the most beneficial to an undergraduate interested in neuropsychology? My minor is sociology, and I really enjoy it. Are there any fields within neuropsychology that relate to sociology? If not, is there a better minor that I could look into pursuing? I apologize for any redundancy in my questions, but I would be most appreciative of any response that my post will generate.

Talk to Dr. Gouvier in the psychology department at LSU. You could get general tips here through this forum, but since you have a respected neuropsychologist on faculty there, your best bet is to speak with him, especially since he knows what the options are at your school and in the local area.

Good luck,

Wow, thank you so much. I had no idea that there was a neuropsychologist at my school.
