I have been searching for answers for several years for my now eight-year-old daughter. She has been finally "diagnosed" with developmental delays; tested for Autism, Asperger's, PDD, Tourette's and ADHD. The professionals admitted it's the best they could do but so many of her symptoms overlap it's hard to pinpoint a diagnosis. I honestly believe that something happened while she was in utero. She was born with a ventricular septal defect( heart defect) that closed at 8 weeks, she has an ear dimple ( small pinpoint hole on the outer ear), she's missing four permanent teeth and her kidneys are undeveloped - she often still wets her pants if she doesn't make it to the bathroom in time. I do know as a nurse that the kidneys and ears form at the same time in utero so I am wondering what impact this had on her brain development? And is there a specific genetic disorder that she may possibly have? There are MANY out there. Her father is a doctor and I am a nurse (we are now divorced) and we are both educated and want to desperately learn more about what we can do for her. She is currently in special ED and on Strattera 40 mg. daily. Does anyone have any recs, like maybe an MRI? Any tests? I'm desperately searching and would love any help!
Thanks,

Christine in Shreveport, LA

A pediatric neurologist can give you a diagnosis with MRI and brain scans. I wouldn't go to a genetic counselor unless you were to rule out genetic diseases or something that is degenterative.

It sounds like you just need the right diagnosis and the right help and services from the school. The pediatric neurologist can diagnose her and provide recommendations to the school to help her learning.
