Ok everyone don't laugh but what is the difference in the various programs: Neuropsychology, Neuroscience, Behavioral Neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience . . . these are some of the programs i've seen.

Do you know what the difference is?

Also, is their a complete lists of ph.d programs in the field, aside from www.gradschools.com which has most of the neuropsychology programs listed under clinical psychology. Thus a long and extensive search is required.

Thanks for the help,

Ha ha ha!

No, just kidding. They're legitimate questions.

For links to information about neuropsych programs, check the training links section on this website.

I'll be happy to reply to your question about the different fields, although a caveat is that I'm just giving broad generalizations.

Neuroscience is a broad area that covers the nervous system from more of a natural sciences perspective--chemistry and cell bio types of things.

Behavioral neuroscience looks at the relationship between the nervous and endocrine systems and behavior.

Cognitive neuroscience focuses a lot more on modeling cognitive processes like memory, language, etc.

Neuropsychology focuses more on the psychology end of things, dealing more with deficits and the functioning of the brain--if something goes wrong, what happens to behavior?

Again, gross overgeneralizations, but that's more or less the differences.

Hi Chris
Not a silly question...I am in the dilemma at the moment about choosing neuroscience or neuropsych pathways and so your question (and admin ans) is already helping clarify my position.
