I am beside myself in trying to get my son (15) to do better in school (IQ 135), I mean he gets D and F, and I think this adds to his unmotivated attitude, he studies does homework but cannot seem to get the grades up he has been tutored and has had help with his homework (not someone DOING it FOR him, but explaining it to him) Finally I have found a neuropsychologist while just looking for a family therapist, unfortunately I do NOT have custody of my son (DCFS ward- long story) and the facility he is at refuses to allow him to keep seeing this neuropsych , he did NOT see her long enough for her to evaluate him but I keep contact with her and DEFINTELY want to have my son see her again. I do not KNOW where I am going with this.. maybe how can we convince the court to order the residential treatment center (where he does NOT belong it was an emergency placement but so far is still there with low functioning adolescents) to allow me to take him back to this woman whom he likes tremendously and actully TALKS to her ..he does not trust psych's esp after all this DCFS stuff, but he and the therapist seemed to have clicked right away. any idea of what may be happening in my son's situation, maybe just the situation itself is distracting him? sorry this is so long I just surfed into this forum and maybe its right where I was supposed to be today. thank you, michele
