Hello everybody i am doing a master's course in neuropsychology and looking at doing my dissertation on addiction.
i have reason to believe the addictions can be behavioral as well, not just to substances i.e alcohol, cocaine...etc. there are some good articles out there about some of these ideas. I have read a lot of them and i am looking for an effective valid test to measure executive functioning capabilities. i think that addiction and this are related. does anyone have experience with either executive functioning, addiction or the connection between the pleasure center of the brain and the prefrontal cotex via the cingulate gyrus? feel free to add any input or just to comment if you wish. thought i would give this a try. thanks!

I don’t think there is behavioral tendencies involved in addiction at all as every action is drawn from an unconsious need, the consious is basically decided what to drink or what drugs to do which in itself still coinsides with the mentality present, but more so it addiction can start all the way back to the womb, as if is stress and anxiety is passed on to the child it automatically puts the developing cells on edge, creating a psychological need. This need which is probably not dealt with affectively at a young age by attending to the Childs needs manifests itself into behavioral tendencies and even adhd and such and as a result drinking and other drug use occurs. In general a cell starts with a clean slate, and any stimulation received from that point is only going to cause it to want more whether it be bad or good, its still stimulation. However with proper upbringing and good fundamentals from the onset of birth can really minimize the potential use of such things in the long run. All in all drinking usually starts at a young age, school and the social system is a complete joke now. The minds repersents cells in expansion coupled with acceptance issues in society and an instable social framework which leads to drinking and in general trying to identify oneselve with the peers around that person. You can even look at the recent stats and they all indicate that drinking is social related and a product of mass psychology. All in all it can be prevented but against a growing trend toward accommodating the pleasure principle is really hindering and progress. It really is a sad state of affairs.
