Hi everyone,
I posted this on the student forum, but would like some more feedback...
I am a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota, and am planning to apply to their Clinical PhD program for entrance in Fall 2009. The program is extremely difficult to get into, and my only other option for a Clinical program in this area is a Psy.D. from Argosy University. I really don't want to leave Minnesota, but have a couple of questions about this latter option.
First, does anyone know about the general attitude towards Argosy University in the field? I have a feeling that it is considered an inferior institution, perhaps because they advertise their Associate's programs on television... My attitude is that a Doctorate is a Doctorate... Any opinions?
Similarly, a few times I've encountered a sort of "scoffing" reaction to the mention of pursuing a Psy.D. I realize that Psy.D. programs are not as competitive, and therefore less selective... but are these programs looked down upon? I would never want to limit myself in the future or risk being taken as a joke, but my feeling is that great minds do great things, regardless of the letters behind their names.
Any opinions or advice from people in the field would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
